Starting November 4th campsites 211-237 will be open for winter camping.  All other sites will be closed. Shower House is closed and there is 1 porta-jon. You may get water at the entrance facility when you pull in at the spicket. All other water is shut off.

Cowan Lake Campground offers 254 campsites that must be reserved through the reservation system, with the exceptionof 30 walk-in sites.  Walk-in campsites are only available on a first come first  serve basis.  The following campsites are walk-in sites:  #1-15, #64-71, and #204-210.  There is a maximum of six people allowed to stay on a campsite at a time.  All sites contain a fire ring and picnic table.  The campground also offers pet  friendly campsites.  The pet sites are:  #1-63, #175-176, #211-237, and all Class B campsites.  Restroom facilities and water can be found throughout the campground loops.

Electric Campsites

Cowan Lake Campground has 237 electrical campsites suitable for tents or trailers.  In addition to restroom facilities and water, there are two shower houses, with laundry facilities, located in the electric camping .  All sites contain 30 and 50 amp electrical service.  Most electric campsites also have plenty of afternoon shade.

Primitive Camping

In addition to 237 electric campsites, Cowan also offers 17 non              
electric campsites suitable for tents, located in the Class B camping area. There
is a maximum of six people allowed to stay on a campsite at a time.  There is a restroom facility next to the camp beach.  Shower houses are located in the
electric camping area.  All sites contain a fire ring, picnic table, and are pet friendly.  The lake is viewable from all campsites.  Class B campsites have full afternoon sun.  All sites must be reserved through the reservation system.

Cowan Lake Campground General Information

Family Camping

You must be 18 years of age or older to register for a campsite.  Each person who registers for a campsite is responsible for the campsite occupants and ensuirng all rules and regulations are observed.  A campsite may not be occupied by more than six persons.  The area manager may make exceptions to this limit in the case of a family with many children.

Registration, Renewals and Check-out

Sites 1-15, 64-71, and 204-210 are walk-in sites and are available on a first come first serve basis.  Please self register at the entrance station.  All other sites are by reservation only.  Check-in is 3:00pm and Check-out is 1:00pm.  Please contact our reservation center at 1-866-644-6727 or make reservations online at www.ohiostateparks.org.

Visitors

Camp visiting hours are 6am to 10pm.  Quiet hours are from 10pm through 6am.  Radios, televisions, stereos and voices must be kept down to a minimum as not to disturb others.  Visitors must obtain a visitor's permit from the camp office.  Fees will be charged for vehicles exceeding the limits listed in "General Rules and Regulations."  Car Passes are $3.00 from Memorial Day through Labor Day and $5.00 during Fall Campout.

Pets

A maximum of two pets are permitted per campsite in loops 1-60 and 211-237.  Pets are restricted to the Pet Loops and must be on a leash not exceeding 6 feet in length and must be under control at all times.  ABSOLUTELY no pets allowed in the non-pet camping areas or the beach areas.  Proof of rabies shots and physical description of the animals are required at time of campsite registration. 

General Rules and Regulations

  • Use of firearms and fireworks is strictly prohibited in camp areas.
  • Fires are allowed only in stoves, grills or fire rings.
  • DO NOT MOVE FIRE RINGS.
  • Collecting firewood or cutting trees is prohibited.
  • Ride bicycles only on paved surfaces or designated trails.
  • Protect our trees.  Do not tie clothes lines, tent lines, pet lines, or lanterns to trees.
  • Dishwater must be disposed of in wastewater drains located in each loop.
  • Toilet wastewater must be disposed of at the dump station located near the camp entrance.
  • Use boat launch ramps only for launching or loading.
  • Each campsite registration must be posted on the site marker post at the time of registration.
  • One motor vehicle in addition to one of the following:  motor home, bus, hard-top trailer, station wagon, van, truck camper, car, motorcycle or house trailer, may be parked on the site parking pad for daily transportation use.  For tent campers, two cars or three motorcycles on one lot are acceptable.  All other vehicles must be parked in the visitors parking lots located at the park office, beach camp lot, and middle lot at the nature center.
  • Shower house parking facilities, including the wheelchair accessible spaces, are to be used for those using either the restroom, laundry or shower facility ONLY.  No long-term parking at the shower houses. 

 

  • All motorized vehicles must be parked on the pavement.
  • Utility trailer and empty boat trailers are permitted in the grass area.
  • Bicycles must display lighting as prescribed by the Ohio Revised Code 4511.56 to be operated 1/2 hour before sunset to 1/2 hour after sunrise.
  • All speed limits must be obeyed.  Ten mph limit in the cabin and camping area.  Twenty mph limit on the main road from the check-in station to the camp beach.
  • Mopeds, mini-bikes and trail bikes are not permitted on the park roads without proper licensing and required safety equipment.  Off road bicycles use is only permitted on the Mountain Bike Trail.
  • Moped operators must have either a valid driver's license or a valid motorized bicycle license.  No person under 14 years of age may operate a motorized bicycle on Ohio State Parks property.  Helmet and eye protection are required.
  • Alcoholic beverages are PROHIBITED except in the confines of a cabin, tent, trailer or motor home.
  • Swimming hours are from sunrise to sunset.  Swimming is permitted at the main beach, the camp beach, and at the designated cove swimming area ONLY.
  • Children under the age of six years old should be accompanied by a parent at all playground equipment.
